About 350 million years ago, the shelf of coral in the sea was changed to limestone, and the movement in the earth's crust allowed push up the limestone on the ground, the karst tableland of Akiyoshidai. Hills with appearance of limestone called “karrenfeld Eand the cone-shaped doline make the strange landscape. Shuhodo that spreads about 100 m below Akiyoshidai is the largest in the Orient. Choja-ga-mori Akiyoshido Karst Observation Room
The forest which stands out in the meadow of Akiyoshidai is Choja-ga-mori. Originally, people had burned the forest to create the meadow. However, when the forest was burned, a part of the forest was left as it was, as the place where Gods live. This is the origin of this forest's name. Therefore, Choja-ga-mori is very valuable to know original vegetation in Akiyoshidai. In the forest, various kinds of trees overgrow, trunks of trees which stand side by side have a tremendous impact.
A large limestone cave on the south foot of Akiyoshidai. Total length of this cave is approx. 10 km, and there is an approx. 1-km general sightseeing course there. Through all seasons, the temperature in the cave is constantly 17hC, enabling you to explore there comfortably. A number of magical inner forms vary widely, “Koganebashira E(Golden Pillar) and “Hyakumaizara E(One hundred limestone pools) are particularly splendid among the splendorous objects of scenic beauty, which provides a mysterious sense of nature.
Karst Observation Room is in the west of Akiyoshidai Science Museum, where is 3 minutes away from “Akiyoshidai Ebus station. The 2nd floor of the observation room has a circular form, so you can enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view there. The main body of this circular form was created with the image of a fossil fusulinid. On the wall of this observation room, marbles are attached so that visitors can observe fusulinid fossil and others.

Myokenbara Mt.Wakatake Akiyoshidai Museum of Natural History
Myokenbara is the grassy plain located in the midst of the karst plateau. The trail that runs from Myokenbara to Kagikyodo is perfectly suited for hiking and is surrounded by an abundance of flowers in each season that will sooth the mind.
In 1949, the name of Mt. Wakatake was given by the prince, who became the Emperor Showa later, during his visit. The area around there is called Wakatakehara, its topography consists of lots of limestones. The wilderness on which pillars of those limestones stand is called Karrenfeld, and this mountain is the best point to observe the Karrenfeld. The scenic beauty which can be seen from Mt. Wakatake will draw your eyes.
Akiyoshidai Museum of Natural History has been developed as a creative and distinctive one, and plays a strong role as the base for researching and preserving the figure of Akiyoshidai. Contents being displayed are really wide and include history, geology, paleontology, geography, meteorology, caves, animals, botany, archaeology, and lifestyle of the human being. Also, the wonder of great Akiyoshidai is explained.
