Mukaishima is located in the other side across Onomichi. This town is linked with Onomichi by the Onomichi Big Bridge and Shin-Onomichi Big Bridge. But we recommend using a romantic connecting vessel. This town was used for a location of movie shoot by Nobuhiko Obayashi, movie director. You can visit the back lot and locations of movies. Oranges and orchids are main industry of this town. There are "Mukaishima Orchids center" and "Tachibana Shizen Katsuyo Village".

Takamiyama Park (National Park) Tachibana Tsurigahama Beach Location Set Of Film "Ashita"
Mt. Takami is 283 m high. There is a perfect view from the summit as it once functioned as a good lookout for Murakami Suigun in the past. You will see the Onomichi Sea in the north and the Shikoku Ishizuchi mountain ranges in the south. In the region, Mt. Takami is famous for having the best panoramic view of all the islands found in the Island Sea. From the summit, a walkway called “Seto-no-utamichi” makes its way down to the southern foot of the mountain. Along this walkway, you will find famous poetry chiseled on natural stones. Another walkway on the north slope makes its way to the Mukaishima Orchid Center.
Tachibana Tsurigahama Beach is a beautiful, natural beach witch stretches a long way along the coast. Natural beaches surround Mukaihama, however Tachibana offers an exceptional coastline. You will especially appreciate the view of Innoshima Bridge from the beach.
This is the location set of the film “Ashita (Tomorrow)”, which was directed by Nobuhiko Obayashi from his “Shin-Onomichi Trilogy”. In the film, this location was used as a waiting room of the “Yobukomaru”. It is now being used as a bus stop. The ferry port nearby played a location part in the film as well. Sit down, close your eyes and picture yourself in this scene of the film.

Mukaishima Orchid Center Yoshihara Family Residence Tachibana Natural Utilization Village
Located at the foot of the Mt. Takami National Park, this orchid center exhibits numerous western orchids that are cultivated by taking advantage of Mukaishima's mild climate. Enjoy a relaxing time in the expansive lawn called “Ikoi-no-hiroba (resting park)” of 2000 m2.
It is well known that the Yoshihara Family Residence is one of the historic residences in the region. It served as residence for successive village heads of Mukaishima-Nishimura till the end of the Edo era. The main house was re-built in 1635. It was named a Hiroshima Important Cultural Property in 1971 and a National Important Cultural Asset in 1991. Among the private residences of which their construction dates are known, this residence is the 3rd oldest property, and the oldest as farmhouse in Japan. Resulting from the 2-year period of repair and examination, some transitions since the initial building structure were almost clarified and the reconstruction took the shape of the initial structure.
The inhabitants of Tachibana village were once renowned for living the longest lives in Japan. In spring, you can gather flowers in the fields that bear calendula and stock blossoming. On the 2nd floor of the administration center, you can enjoy your meal while taking in the great view of the blue Island Sea and green islands.
