Located in the east of Ushimado-town (from Sekimachi to Higashimachi), the street reminds the atmosphere of a port town flourished from Edo era to 1950s. There are traditional buildings and sites studded such as a clay storehouse with white walls, lattice gates, former Chugoku Bank, and a ruin of lantern hall, in addition to Honrennji Temple related to Korean mission and a ruins of old teahouses. |
The very historical temple of Hokke-shu is 150 meters from the coast. The three-storied pagoda is unique as a temple built by the sea. Seven buildings such as the main hall, Banshindo hall, inner gate, and Soshido hall and the three-storied pagota are designated as important cultural assets by Okayama prefecture or by the government. The palace garden is a special garden made by Enshu Kobori, and is spectacular when Kirishima azalea and Satsuki azalea are in full bloom. |
