A port town about which the tanka is composed in a Collection of a Myriad Leaves. This town is called “Ushimado Senken”, where the Korean embassy was entertained as a sea route of Seto Inland Sea in the Edo period. The central area of town has lots of remnants of the Edo period. The hill overlooking the town/port is the olive garden. The yacht harbor is prepared in the port. So you can see the scenery reminding you of the Aegean. So it is attractive as a resort because of art activities.

History History
Shiomachi Karakoto Street Honrenji Temple
Located in the east of Ushimado-town (from Sekimachi to Higashimachi), the street reminds the atmosphere of a port town flourished from Edo era to 1950s. There are traditional buildings and sites studded such as a clay storehouse with white walls, lattice gates, former Chugoku Bank, and a ruin of lantern hall, in addition to Honrennji Temple related to Korean mission and a ruins of old teahouses.
The very historical temple of Hokke-shu is 150 meters from the coast. The three-storied pagoda is unique as a temple built by the sea. Seven buildings such as the main hall, Banshindo hall, inner gate, and Soshido hall and the three-storied pagota are designated as important cultural assets by Okayama prefecture or by the government. The palace garden is a special garden made by Enshu Kobori, and is spectacular when Kirishima azalea and Satsuki azalea are in full bloom.

Copio, Ushimado Gelato Factory Kaiyu Cultural Museum
Homemade gelato made of fresh milk provided by daily farmers is popular. It tastes rich, but leaves a light aftertaste. There is seasonal tastes such as pumpkin, red potato, chestnut, strawberry, and kiwi fruit.
The Western style building was the former Ushimado police head office building. There are two main exhibitions. One is two parade floats designated as significant tangible folk cultural assets by Okayama prefecture. The boat-shaped parade floats with dragon heads are decorated with rich-carving. The other is a display of precious materials related with Korean mission came over to Japan at Edo era.
