Tottori Sand Dunes are the largest scale in Japan with the distance of 2.4 km from north to south, 16 km from east to west, and the maximum vertical interval 90 m. The dunes that have been formed after long years is a symbol of Tottori prefecture. |
???Warabekan??? is a museum of children's songs, school songs and toys. In the Toy Room, world toys, hero dolls in old cartoon shows, toys sold at mom-and-pop candy store are displayed. In the Room of Children's Songs, a good old classroom of wooden primary school is recreated, and you can hear children's songs and school songs. |
Tottori Folk Crafts Museum is a godown style museum with white walls and brown Ishikawa roof tiles. Opened by Shoya Yoshida in 1949, it exhibits folk crafts in old times from all over the country, Korea, China, Europe, as well as Sanin district. The display is changed every three or four months. Works of not artists but skillful workers with attentive care can be seen. |
Hakuto Beach formed the setting of the ancient story ???Inaba No Sirousagi???. It has a beautiful coastline with white sand, and is busy in summer as a bathing beach. The memorial stone of ???Daikokusama Song??? can be found along the national load, and ???Hakuto Shrine??? dedicated to ???Inaba No Sirousagi??? is located nearby. It is also a southern limit area for wild rugosa rose, which is designated as a national natural treasure. |
???Jinpukaku??? is a western house in French-Renaissance style constructed as a second house in 1907 for the Ikeda family who was a local load of Tottori clan, and is designated as a national important cultural asset. Materials of the local government Tottori clan and folklore materials in Meiji/Taisho era are displayed in the building. The ruin of Tottori Castle stands behind it. Tottori Castle was constructed by a warring lord Yamana clan, and Ikeda clan of the 12th generation lived there in the Edo period. The gateway to the castle and stonewall which still remain make us think of those days. |
Nagashibina in Mochigase-town is an event that a pair of paper hina dolls are streamed on Chiyo River with hishimochi or small blanchs of peach with great deal of atmosphere. It is observed on March 3rd under the old calendar with the wish that we can live happily, safe and sound. It is designated as an intangible ethnic cultural asset of the prefecture in 1985. In ???Nagashibina No Yakata???, which is a large wooden structure modeled Golden Pavilion in Muromachi era, hina dolls in the Edo era or others, hina ornaments, Kamo dolls, court dolls are displayed permanently. Hiina bridge where you can hear hina song when passed can be found in front of the building. |
